Dear AAPA Members and 2020 Annual Meeting Registrants,

We hope that this update finds you safe and well and managing both the physical and social/emotional ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic. These are difficult times. As the need to socially distance ourselves increases, it is clear that remaining a strong and supportive community is essential. Cancelling our annual meeting was an extremely difficult decision. The growing number of participants, however, who are uploading their work onto the AAPA website and receiving encouraging personal and public feedback for their intellectual contributions reminds us that we are members of an extraordinary group of scientists.

If you are interested in uploading your presentation online, please visit this page for further details.

The cancellation of our annual meeting also brought financial issues to the forefront. Registrants, we know, will be hard-pressed to get reimbursed for travel expenses that have already been paid. This disproportionately affects our student members and adjunct/contingent faculty. The AAPA, too, will feel the effects of this decision. While negotiations with the Marriott are promising, and the likelihood of the association losing over $1m is greatly reduced, at best we will minimally incur a $200k cash loss this year related to meeting expenses alone. The AAPA, therefore, warmly welcomes donations of all or a portion of your registration fee, but fully recognizes that these are challenging times for us all!

As always, we wish you and yours good health in the long and uncertain weeks ahead.
