The University of Alaska Fairbanks Department of Anthropology invites applications for Term Assistant Professor in Biological Anthropology, starting August 2024 and renewable for at least two years. The preferred candidate has the ability to teach in a variety of modalities, including on-line asynchronous, maintains an active research program with opportunities for student research, and demonstrates a willingness to mentor graduate and undergraduate students. We are especially interested in candidates with a background in dental anthropology, human variation, forensic anthropology, paleogenomics, or bioarchaeology, but other specialties in biological anthropology will be considered. Openness to collaboration on projects in the Circumpolar North is a plus.

We are a small, cohesive four-field department. Although our faculty engage in research around the world, we share an interest in the Circumpolar North. The Anthropology Department offers a four field BA as well as MA and PhD programs. The successful candidate will have access to several well-equipped departmental laboratories including the dental anthropology and human osteology lab (https://www.uaf.edu/anthro/research/facilties.php) and will be responsible for teaching two to three courses a semester that may include: ANTH 101X: Introduction to Anthropology; ANTH 221X: Fundamentals of Biological Anthropology; ANTH 225: Anthropology and Race; ANTH 315: Human Variation; ANTH 422:Human Osteology, ANTH 424: Analytical Techniques, ANTH 426/626: Bioarchaeology, and ANTH 492/692 seminars that draw on the candidate's area of expertise.

PhD in Anthropology or related field at time of appointment is required.
