The Department of History, Anthropology, and Philosophy at Augusta University is seeking applicants for an academic year Lecturer in Biological Anthropology. The preferred candidate will be expected to teach introductory biological anthropology courses and labs, as well as other anthropology courses as assigned. This is a new, non-tenure eligible faculty position (9-month contract) with duties anticipated to begin in August 2024. Desired candidates will have a strong commitment to teaching general education classes and a clear focus on Biological Anthropology.
Responsibilities Teach 24 hours of classes and labs per year (the equivalent of 8 three-hour classes) as assigned by chair. These will include ANTH 1105 and 1105L (Introduction to Biological Anthropology and Introduction to Biological Anthropology Lab), and possible others such as ANTH 1102 (Introduction to Anthropology).
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in Anthropology, with a clear focus on Biological Anthropology, or Master’s degree in related field with at least 18 graduate hours in Biological Anthropology.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
• Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)’s requirements for institutional accreditation; • Evidence of ability as a teacher; • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned; • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and, • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
Earned doctorate in Anthropology, with a clear focus on Biological Anthropology, or earned doctorate in related field with at least 18 hours in Biological Anthropology.
Experience teaching undergraduate students.
Shift/Salary/Benefits This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter an annual contract.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for each of these positions is 1.0.
Lecturer: Compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
