Overview: The Anthropology Program at USU seeks a Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Biological Anthropology for a (9 month), full-time appointment beginning August 1, 2024. We seek applicants who study contemporary human biological variation with potential research foci on: Nutrition, fertility, stress, biodemography, genetics, infectious disease, health disparities, or microbiome research. We seek applicants with a strong record of research, publication, and the integration of their research interests with teaching. The successful applicant will teach a 2/3 course load (on-line and face-to-face courses) including: Introduction to Biological Anthropology, Perspectives on Race, and Sex, Evolution, and Health. Other courses will be determined based upon department needs and candidate research interests.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will conduct research on contemporary human biological variation and teach courses in Biological Anthropology. The successful candidate will also advise undergraduate students pursuing a degree in Anthropology. Special consideration will be given to candidates whose research and teaching interests complement, rather than replicate, current program offerings.

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: 1. Ph.D. (ABD acceptable) in Anthropology from a CHEA accredited institution or international equivalent 2. Demonstrated ability to live and work legally in the U.S. 3. The successful candidate must be able to satisfactorily complete a background check prior to employment. Preferred Qualifications: 1. Demonstrated potential for effective on-line course development and teaching. 2. Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, publish findings, and apply for external funds.

College/Department Highlights:

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is housed within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Utah State University. The department serves approximately 150 anthropology students, supports both MS and PhD programs in archaeology, and provides service courses to students throughout the broader university community. Utah State has strong programs in STEM fields with which the successful candidate might find fruitful collaborations. The balance among teaching, research, and service will be consistent with a faculty role in a Carnegie Doctoral Extensive research institution.
