The Institute of Human Origins (IHO) at Arizona State University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Scholar in early hominin postcranial anatomy and functional morphology under the supervision of Dr. Yohannes Haile-Selassie. The postdoctoral research scholar will be contributing to a collaborative project studying mid-Pliocene hominin postcrania from Woranso-Mille (Ethiopia), with particular emphasis on their anatomy and functional morphology. This is a full-time, term-limited 1-year position, which may be renewable for a second year, contingent on funding and satisfactory performance. The anticipated start date is August 21, 2023.

The fiscal year (12-month) salary range for this position is $55,000 - $60,000 along with competitive benefits through ASU including health insurance, paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays. The postdoctoral research scholar must be in residence in the greater-Phoenix metropolitan area during the appointment. Qualifications · Ph.D. degree in biological anthropology, biology, anatomy or a related field, or completed all of the requirements for a Ph.D. by the time of appointment. · Demonstrated knowledge in hominin postcranial anatomy and functional morphology, human osteology, fossil hominin description, and microCT data processing and interpretation. · International travel capability to study original hominin fossil materials housed in various African and European museums. · Experience with software packages such as Avizo/Amira, ImageJ, or other similar software packages is also required. · Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse students, faculty, and staff populations and communities Desired qualifications: • Good knowledge of analytical tools such as geometric morphometrics and other quantitative research methods
