The Paleoecology Lab in the Institute of Human Origins and School of Human Evolution and Social Change at Arizona State University is recruiting one Postdoctoral Research Scholar in taphonomy and paleoecology. The Paleoecology Lab is co-directed by Drs. Kaye Reed and Denise Su. The postdoctoral research scholar will be contributing to a project funded by the William M. Keck Foundation to compare the geological and paleoenvironmental contexts of Woranso-Mille and Hadar to better understand Pliocene hominin diversity.

This is a full-time, fiscal-year (12-month), term-limited 2-year position eligible for competitive benefits through ASU including health insurance, paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays. Applicants must be within five years of receipt of their Ph.D. to be considered. The anticipated start date is July 3, 2023 but may be earlier. The postdoctoral research scholar must be in residence in the greater-Phoenix metropolitan area during the appointment.
Minimum qualifications include: • Ph.D. in anthropology, zooarchaeology, biology, geology or a related field by the time of appointment. • Demonstrated experience and/or commitment to the support of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Desired qualifications include: • Experience in collecting and analyzing taphonomic surface modifications; demonstrated knowledge of African Plio-Pleistocene faunal communities.
