The Mallott Lab (https://mallott-lab.github.io) in the Biology Department at Washington University in St. Louis is recruiting a postdoc to study the evolution of the primate gut microbiome and environmental influences on host-microbe interactions in humans and nonhuman primates. Funding is available for up to two years and candidates will be encouraged to apply for external fellowships. Washington University in St. Louis offers a full benefit package to postdocs and salary is based on the NIH postdoctoral stipend levels.

The Mallott Lab is a small, collaborative environment that values a team-based approach to science and is committed to diversity and inclusion. We are an interdisciplinary group that values skillsets from multiple fields, including microbial ecology, epidemiology, and biological anthropology. We have ongoing collaborations with labs in the Department of Anthropology at Washington University in St. Louis, and excellent research facilities are available both on the main campus and at the Washington University School of Medicine.

Postdocs will be supported in developing their own research program, as well as obtaining career development and technical training that meets their career goals. In addition, mentoring and teaching training can be integrated into the candidate’s training plan. This position will primarily be lab-based, including both wet lab and computational work. However, depending on the candidate’s interests and goals, field work may be possible. Required Qualifications - Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.

Preferred Qualifications - Ph.D degree in a relevant field, such as evolutionary biology, microbiology, ecology, anthropology, or computational genomics. - Strong publication record - Proficiency in one or more of the following skills – general molecular and/or microbiological techniques, coding in R or Python, or analyzing sequencing data in a high-performance computing environment - Experience with rt-qPCR, metagenomic library construction, in vitro fermentation, and/or anaerobic culturing is highly preferred - Experience with analyzing microbiome data and/or wild animal data collection and analysis is desirable
