Biological Anthropologist Lecturer

We seek a broadly trained biological anthropologist for our small department who is prepared to teach undergraduate classes, including biological anthropology and human evolution at the introductory level, forensic anthropology, osteology, and other more advanced topical courses in their methodological and/or geographical area of expertise. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach across subfields, especially archaeology or medical anthropology. The ideal candidate will have expertise in applied forensic anthropology and engage in decolonizing methodologies and antiracist approaches to biological anthropology, demonstrating a commitment to diversity and social justice in their teaching and scholarly engagement. The position requires teaching 3 undergraduate courses a semester. This is a two-year term Lecturer position with the possibility of renewal with 3-year contracts moving forward.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications PhD (awarded by August 2023) in anthropology with a focus on biological anthropology or closely related field. Candidates should demonstrate: strong practical skills in applied forensic casework and field work activities in the context of student mentorship; teaching effectiveness (ideally with at least one course as sole instructor); a desire and ability to strengthen links among departmental interests and teaching in archaeology, biological anthropology, and medical anthropology; a desire and ability to contribute to both undergraduate and graduate teaching and assisting in the possible long-term development of a professional master’s degree program in Forensic Anthropology; and a desire and ability to educate anthropology students with either academic or applied career goals.

Additional Preferred Qualifications The ideal candidate will join a team of forensic specialists who train students in the department’s new Forensic Anthropology Identification and Recovery (FAIR) Lab. Among other impactful collaborations, the FAIR Lab has a strong relationship with NH state law enforcement and the ideal candidate would be prepared to participate in ongoing forensic case work for the state while mentoring students.
