The Department of Anthropology at Texas State University invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor in biological anthropology to begin in Fall 2023 (base salary $68,000, negotiable commensurate with qualifications).

The successful candidate will be able to teach quantitative methods (e.g., bivariate and multivariate statistics, biostatistics, statistical programs, data analytics, database management) for anthropology majors at all degree levels. However, the candidate’s specific research area within biological anthropology is open.

Position responsibilities: 1) Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biological anthropology and quantitative methods as assigned. 2) Maintain a research program that results in peer-reviewed publications. 3) Provide practical training and applied and/or basic research experiences for undergraduate and graduate students. 4) Mentor M.A. and Ph.D. students in thesis and dissertation projects. 5) Contribute to service activities in the department, college and university. 6) Advance diversity and inclusion in all areas of faculty effort.

Required qualifications: 1) A Ph.D. degree in anthropology or a related field* at the time of appointment (August 1, 2023). *Applicants with doctoral degrees in other fields must have a minimum of 18 hours of graduate semester credit hours in anthropology. 2) Experience teaching, or the ability to teach, quantitative methods (e.g., bivariate and multivariate statistics, biostatistics, statistical programs, data analytics, database management) for anthropology majors at all degree levels.

Preferred qualifications: 1) Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate students. 2) Experience mentoring students, particularly M.A. and Ph.D. students. 3) Peer reviewed publications or clear plans for an active publication agenda. 4) An active research program or clear plans to institute an active research program. 5) Evidence of external funding or clear plans to obtain future external funding. 6) Commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in research, instruction and/or public engagement.
