Position Description The Department of Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position in biological anthropology, beginning Fall 2023. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to our curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels in areas that complement our existing strengths. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, candidates who incorporate an active research program in human or non-human primate species, extinct or extant, with a research paradigm rooted in, and explicitly connected to, modern evolutionary theory and whose research includes fieldwork and/or laboratory-based studies. Areas of expertise might include but are not limited to: adaptation to changing ecological conditions, climate, habitats, or disease exposures studied through genetic, anatomic, physiological and/or behavioral variation. Opportunities for collaboration include teaching in the Departmental Human Evolutionary Biology and Medical Anthropology and Global Health options, the PaleoBiology minor, and the University’s Data Science Minor; and articulation with the University’s Population Health Initiative, the Center for Studies in Demography and Ecology (especially their Health of People and Populations primary research area), the Center for Statistics and the Social Sciences, existing Departmental laboratories (Biodemography Lab, Molecular Anthropology Lab, Primate Evolutionary Biomechanics Lab), and/or the eScience Institute. Teaching responsibilities include four courses per academic year across three quarters at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in the Biological Anthropology program. UW Anthropology faculty engage in teaching, research, and service and have an annual service period of nine months (September 16-June 15). Qualifications A PhD, or foreign equivalent, in biological anthropology by appointment start date and evidence of a successful research program are required.
