Researcher - Center for Quantitative Imaging (CQI)

The Energy and Environmental Sustainability Laboratories (EESL) invites applications for an immediate opening for a Researcher position to manage the day-to-day operations of the well-established Center for Quantitative Imaging (CQI). CQI is a shared core facility that is open to support all Penn State faculty, students, external academic institutions, government, and industry sponsors. CQI is equipped with computed tomography (CT) equipment, which include, a Zeiss Versa 620 and a General Electric micro/nano CT system.

Primary responsibilities include working and collaborating with internal faculty/researchers as well as external academic and industrial clients to identify, research and develop analytical techniques and best analytical approach required to answer research questions.

The successful candidate must have:

• good working knowledge of operation and maintenance of CT equipment and ability to troubleshoot • demonstrated knowledge and experience working with diverse fields of research and interdisciplinary teams with experience in microCT imaging, processing, and analysis together in the quantification and characterization of complex structure and composition • experience with software packages such as Avizo, Dragonfly, Image J, and Python and R preferred, coding experience a plus • knowledge and experience with mounting and staining techniques • knowledge in CT technology and extensive experience in a wide range of CT applications in various scientific domains working with biotic and abiotic material, and • demonstrated knowledge and experience in managing multiple scanners and projects, working with and training research faculty, students, and external academic institutions and industry sponsors.

The successful candidate must be detail oriented, organized, possess a creative mind and approach towards executing CT imaging; possess excellent communication and writing skills. The individual must have a minimum of a Ph.D. in a science or engineering field, and must have demonstrated ability as a researcher and evidence of professional growth and scholarship in his/her discipline.

This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with an excellent possibility of renewal. To apply, please submit a brief cover letter, resume, and three references.
