JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Anthropology at the Pennsylvania State University is seeking excellent candidates for the position of Postdoctoral Scholar to join a collaborative research project investigating the interaction of the pharyngeal skeleton, the chondrocranium and the dermatocranium in the development and evolution of cranial shape. This postdoctoral position is part of NIH-funded collaborative projects (see below for links to abstracts of funded projects through NIH reporter).

The ideal candidate for this position should have a strong working knowledge of craniofacial anatomy (especially prenatal) and have experience with current methods used to quantify growing bone, either wet-lab (e.g., histology, immunohistochemistry) or morphometric approaches, as well as techniques used in microCT imaging, processing, and analysis. Experience with software packages such as Avizo, ImageJ, SlicerMorph, MeshLab, and R is preferred but not required. Experience with Python and machine learning is a plus.

Education: The qualified candidate must hold a Ph.D. degree or have completed all of the requirements for a Ph.D. by the time of appointment.
