Kenyon College, a highly selective, nationally ranked liberal arts college in central Ohio, invites applications for a visiting position in Anthropology at the level of Assistant Professor, beginning fall semester 2022 through spring semester 2023. Completion of Ph.D. is expected prior to or shortly after the date of hire. We seek a broadly-trained biocultural anthropologist with an excellent teaching record. Geographic area and research specialty is open but interests in human ecology and/or human-environment interactions are preferred. Theoretical specialties should complement existing strengths within the Anthropology department. Individuals from underrepresented groups who can contribute to the growing diversity of our academic community, particularly through their inclusive teaching, are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities include teaching a 2/3 course load over the two semesters in 2022-23. The successful candidate will teach 1-2 sections of Introduction to Biological Anthropology each semester, and upper-level courses associated with their area of specialization. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to engage with the College's liberal arts curriculum and with colleagues and students in interdisciplinary programs.

Review of applications will begin March 21, 2022, and continue until the position is filled.

To apply, candidates should visit the online application site found at http://careers.kenyon.edu.

A complete application will be comprised of 1) a Cover Letter that includes an articulation of the applicant's teaching philosophy, how their research will enhance theoretical and methodological discourse in the context of a liberal arts college, and how the candidate will contribute to promoting a culturally and intellectually diverse and inclusive educational environment. More specifically, we would like to know how each candidate addresses questions of diversity and inclusion in their pedagogy or research. We are also interested in learning about past experience in teaching, or otherwise working with, diverse student populations, 2) Curriculum Vitae, 3) Unofficial graduate transcript, and 4) names, titles, and contact information for three references. Letters of reference will be requested from the three persons for whom contact information is provided. All application materials must be submitted electronically through Kenyon's employment website. An EOE, Kenyon welcomes diversity and encourages the applications of women and minority candidates.

Preferred Qualifications: Strong preference will go to those with a demonstrable record of excellence in teaching in a liberal arts setting, a commitment to a pedagogical approach grounded in a holistic perspective of the discipline, and an active research agenda. A Ph.D. in Anthropology is preferred; however, applicants who are ABD will be considered.

As a reflection of its commitment to interdisciplinary studies, the College encourages the teaching of courses that may be cross-listed and contribute to African Diaspora Studies, American Studies, Asian & Middle Eastern Studies, Environmental Studies, International Studies, Latino/a Studies, Law and Society, Public Policy, and Women’s and Gender Studies.
