4x PhD Students Positions (m/f/d, E 13 TV-L, 50%) Faculty of Science, Institute of Archaeological Sciences Deadline : 21.02.2022

In the framework of the ERC funded project:

REVIVE - Tracing Hominin Occupations of and Migrations through the Levant: Reviving Paleolithic Research in Lebanon

the Paleoanthropology Workgroup at the Institute of Archaeological Sciences, University of Tübingen is seeking to fill

four PhD Students Positions (m/f/d, E 13 TV-L, 50%)

one in each of the following archaeological sciences fields: paleoanthropology, zooarchaeology, lithics analysis, geoarchaeology.

The positions will start as soon as possible and will be limited to a period of 3 years (with a possible extension for a fourth year). Salary will be according to the German public service scale E13 TV-L at 50%.

The successful applicants will join a multidisciplinary team of researchers led by Dr. Sireen El Zaatari. The applicants will be expected to participate in all the Paleolithic related fieldwork activities that will take place in Lebanon as well as in the analysis/re-analysis of new and previously excavated material housed at various national and international institutions. The successful candidates will thus be required to travel to and have extended research stays in Lebanon and also in various other countries in Europe and in the USA.

Applicants for this position must hold a master’s degree in archaeological sciences or closely related fields. The applicants should have previous experience in the specific field they are applying to (paleoanthropology, zooarchaeology, lithics analysis, geoarchaeology). Familiarity with the Levantine Paleolithic record is particularly desired. The applicants should be fluent in the English language (written and oral). Knowledge of the Arabic language is not required, but will be considered an advantage.
