The Department of Anthropology at San Diego State University invites applications for a tenure track position at the level of assistant professor to begin Fall 2022. We are seeking candidates who can complement and augment the department’s biological anthropology strengths in human and nonhuman primate biology and behavior, human-environment interactions, and biocultural approaches to nutrition, health, and disease. We are particularly interested in applicants 1) with a research specialization in primate/hominin paleoecology and evolution or the functional and comparative morphology of humans and other primates; 2) who conduct field-based, interdisciplinary research integrating biological data within an ecological and social context; and, 3) who demonstrate experience in and/or commitment to conducting engaged public anthropology (e.g., helping maintain public scientific literacy regarding human evolution). Geographic area is open. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in anthropology completed by the effective starting date of employment (August 18, 2022). Candidates should have teaching experience and an active research program. The successful applicant will show a strong record of research and publication and the potential to obtain external funding. The successful candidate will teach low-to-mid-level subfield-specific courses for the curriculum, undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate’s research specialties, and advise undergraduate and master’s level students. Applicants should have demonstrated experience in and/or commitment to teaching and working effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups.
