JOB TITLE: Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor (WWAMI Medical Education Anatomist)

JOB PURPOSE: The Wyoming WWAMI Medical Education program invites applications for a non-tenure track, Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor position, preferably beginning in the summer of 2022. The selected candidate will lead the operations of the medical education program’s Gross Anatomy Lab and teach first and second-year medical students as outlined. This is a fiscal-year (12-month) position with the potential for academic promotion and rolling-contract status.

The WWAMI Medical Education program is Wyoming’s Medical School. The University of Wyoming participates in the WWAMI Medical Education program which is affiliated with the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, WA. Our Laramie regional campus is directly responsible for instruction of the basic sciences foundation and foundations of clinical medicine components of the medical education curriculum, which composes a majority of the first two years of medical school. The selected candidate will join a team in Laramie and across the WWAMI region dedicated to high-quality medical education.

The individual in this position is supported by a full-time, staff Anatomy Lab Manager. The lab manager is responsible for general lab upkeep, specimen collection maintenance, and preparing many of the prosections (some with assistance from the WWAMI Anatomist). The current lab manager also assists with in-lab instruction for first and second year medical students in support of our WWAMI Anatomist as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Coordinate and provide high-quality education to first and second-year medical students in the areas of human anatomy, human embryology, and neuroanatomy • Oversee the WWAMI Anatomy Lab and supervise/assist the full-time Lab Manager with cadaver prosections • Other content delivery consistent with candidate's skills, training, and expertise • Coordinate & facilitate the annual cadaver exchange process • Oversee care and maintenance of cadavers and manage formaldehyde safety protocols • Maintain pathology lab specimens and existing pro-sections and monitor collection status • Develop course materials and teach anatomy related content • Collaborate in the development of course materials and teach anatomy and histology related content for assigned courses during Fall & Spring semesters • Co-develop course content with other anatomists from the WWAMI region • Provide tours of the lab facility as needed

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS: Activities may include but are not limited to: • Participation in College of Health Sciences and/or University of Washington School of Medicine committees • Facilitate active learning workshops • Participation in professional organizations • Participation in outreach teaching to inter-professional groups within the College

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Experience with cadaver-based dissection • Master’s degree with a focus in anatomy or a related field in the life sciences • Teaching experience and expertise in human gross anatomy with at least two years’ experience teaching cadaver-based dissection, preferably in a medical education setting • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Earned doctoral degree (PhD/MD/DO) with a focus in anatomy or a related field in the life sciences • Additional teaching experience, education, or medical background in neuroanatomy • Individuals with additional teaching experience or medical background in any of the following areas are encouraged to apply: human embryology, histology, renal physiology, pulmonary physiology, skin histology/physiology, pathophysiology, or pathology • Demonstration of excellence in teaching, ideally with experience in active learning and the use of educational technology • Skills or experience that contribute to a safe learning and work environment committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills • Evidence of contributions to a collaborative, team-based work environment • Instructional experience in a medical education curriculum • Capable of contributing to an integrated, multi-site curriculum with high-level organization, flexibility, and the ability to multi-task while maintaining precision
