The Department of Anthropology at UNC-Chapel Hill invites applications for an Assistant Professor rank, tenure-track, biological anthropologist with a start date of July 1, 2022. We seek a biological anthropologist whose research emphasizes intergenerational, epigenetic or genetic approaches to health inequities. We are particularly interested in faculty whose teaching and research focus on evolutionary or developmental approaches to human health, including chronic or infectious diseases, nutrition, or reproductive health, or the underlying social and environmental determinants of health. We seek a scholar and teacher who will contribute to our vibrant undergraduate and graduate program in Human Biology, Ecology and Evolution and our interdisciplinary minor and major in Medical Anthropology. The standard teaching load is 2 courses per semester and could include a large introductory course, mid- to upper-level specialized courses for the major, and graduate seminars in the candidate’s specialty. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work would connect to other research units on campus such as the Carolina Population Center, the Gillings School of Global Public Health, Genome Sciences, and the Environment, Ecology, and Energy Program. Candidates should have an active lab and/or field research program. Geographical region is open but applicants whose expertise complements that of existing faculty are especially welcome. The department seeks candidates whose research, teaching, or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education.
