Laboratory Manager Position in the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Southern California

The Campbell laboratory in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Southern California seeks a motivated and enthusiastic Laboratory Manager to join our dynamic research group. The Campbell lab combines field-based, experimental, and computational approaches to tackle fundamental questions in human genomics and evolution. In particular, we are interested in the past migration and admixture of modern humans in the Arabian Peninsula (AP) and Africa. Furthermore, we seek to identify variants that contribute to the development of human normal variable traits (e.g., lactase persistence and skin pigmentation, as well as related phenotypes) and complex diseases (e.g., kidney and breast cancers). We also work with top-notch collaborators to investigate the dynamics of the gut microbiome in urban and rural populations in the AP.

The successful candidate will oversee daily operations of the research laboratory, including maintaining equipment/inventory, lab databases, procedures and protocols, and serving as the primary point of contact between the laboratory and vendors. This individual will also negotiate with vendors for the purchase, maintenance and calibration of equipment, check supply levels, place orders, and distribute new supplies. Additionally, the successful applicant will ensure that lab members comply with all laboratory rules and regulations. Other responsibilities will include performing experiments for multiple projects, preparing DNA samples for genomic genotyping and sequencing in core facilities, training incoming/rotating students, and attending weekly lab meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Master's degree in the biological sciences or a related discipline is required. The applicant must have a minimum of two years of experience and training in laboratory procedures and techniques. Strong communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and work effectively to reach milestones promptly are essential.

• Excellent judgment and aptitude for technical problem solving. • Ability to make independent and effective decisions. • Ability to supervise/mentor others. • Ability to contribute to the completion of annual reports and grant proposals. • Must possess strong budget management skills.

Salary and Duration:

This position is renewable annually contingent upon satisfactory performance and continued funding. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University of Southern California also offers competitive benefits that include medical, dental, and vision.
