Positions: A tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor is available in the Department of Biology at Truman State University, a top-ranked public liberal arts and sciences university.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will contribute to core teaching needs in the areas of cell biology, microbiology, and/or genetics, as well as specialty, upper-level electives that will serve programs in Biology and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. The successful candidate will be expected to make contributions to teaching an introductory course in cellular and molecular biology, a freshman seminar and/or an introductory writing course on a rotating basis. A research program that provides undergraduate students with high-quality research experiences is expected for the successful candidate. Particular attention will be given to candidates with research programs that complement and diversify existing programs in the department. The particular area of research and the focal level of biological organization are flexible. Additional opportunities for offering courses that support the liberal arts mission of the university will be periodically available, and service to the department and university are expected.

Required Qualifications: This position requires a Ph.D. (completed by June 1, 2022) in Biology or a related field.

Candidates will be evaluated on:

Ability to teach cell biology, genetics and/or microbiology. Ability to teach an introductory course in cellular and molecular biology Evidence of actual or potential teaching effectiveness. A plan for research that involves undergraduates and complements or diversifies existing programs. Evidence of actual, or potential for, involvement of undergraduates in the candidate’s research program. Evidence of actual, or interest in being involved in university service. Ph.D. in Biology, or related field. Commitment to teaching at an undergraduate liberal arts institution. Effective written communication skills and attention to detail.

Program: The Department of Biology is part of the School of Science and Mathematics at Truman State University. The Department has 20 faculty members, approximately 500 undergraduate majors.
