Nature of Work:

This position manages the anatomy labs and supports the School of Medicine, the School of Dental Medicine, and the State Anatomical Board. Overall duties include maintenance of prosections, ordering and maintenance of supplies for courses, scheduling of anatomy laboratories, and some instruction.

DIRECT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES TO THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS OF THE SCHOOL OF MEDICINE (SOM) AND SCHOOL OF DENTAL MEDICINE (SDM) (0.5 FTE) include, but are not limited to: Management and scheduling of anatomy lab spaces and resources on the 5th Floor of Ed1. This includes scheduling, organization, setup, and clean-up the 4 main cadaver labs, the east lab, bone room, and simulation room for the following course-users: MD (Plains, Alpine & Bootcamp integrated sessions) IDPT6025 (Anatomy Autopsy Elective) CHAPA (1st yr course) DPT (1st & 2nd yr courses) Dental (2nd yr course) Modern Human Anatomy (1st yr course) Anesthesiology (Residents, Acute Pain Service) Other courses within the SOM and SDM

Management of anatomy lab spaces and resources by non-course users and student interest groups: Clinical demos (e.g., OBGYN, ORTHO, Suture clinic) Special projects (e.g., MHA graduate student research projects or independent study projects) Outreach and student interest groups (e.g., AHEC, HAPS, HOSA, WELCOME Program, lab tours)

Management of other anatomy-related activities for outside groups

Collection, organization, inventory, and storage of cadaveric organs and skulls that are used to supplement lab experiences (>184 bone boxes, skeletons, bone room collection, ~35 plastinated specimens and ~250 wet specimens). This will also soon include coordination and re-use of specialized prosections across courses/programs.

Scheduling, coordination, and management of the paid student workers completing for MD, Dental and MHA programs, and directly contribute to prosection efforts for these programs.

Purchasing and organization of tools and other supplies required for prosections. Maintenance of prosections and management of student workers assisting with this task (e.g., applying wetting solution) to ensure preservation for courses.

Occasional teaching in cadaver-based laboratory sessions, organizing and facilitating review sessions, laboratory tutoring, assistance with course exams, care and maintenance of pro-sections on an as-needed basis.

Management of other anatomy-related activities for SOM and SDM programs.

STATE ANATOMICAL BOARD (SAB) DUTIES (0.5 FTE): Coordination and direction of SAB staff to meet campus program anatomy needs Serve as liaison for coordination of anatomy needs/resources between State Anatomical Board, Modern Human Anatomy Program, Hospital autopsy, Department of Pathology, School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, PT, PA, and other programs on campus.

Purchasing and maintaining supplies and equipment (PPE, solutions, buckets, tools), and assurance of proper use of anatomy lab spaces and resources to meet the needs of the SAB staff.

Coordinate and participate in the turnover of labs (including cadaveric donors) between courses.

Assist embalming technician with preparing for the transport of cadaveric donors to other institutions.

Oversee workers providing custodial services for the lab and personally perform light custodial work in the SAB labs and other facilities when necessary.

------ Supervision Received: The lab manager will report directly to the Secretary Treasurer of the State Anatomical Board.

Supervision Exercised: The instructor will not supervise other employees.

Salary and Benefits: The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $50,000 to $80,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

------ Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree Previous experience teaching in a cadaver dissection-based human anatomy course. Demonstrated experience in human cadaver dissection.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated knowledge of human anatomy and the workings of an anatomical sciences laboratory. Preference will be given to applicants with experience teaching and dissecting all regions of human anatomy (back, extremities, trunk, head and neck). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Previous experience with management and organizational skills Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
