The Comparative Anatomy and Morphometrics Laboratory at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth seeks a postdoctoral fellow to work under the supervision of Scott Maddux, PhD.

The postdoctoral fellow will assist with data collection and analysis in conjunction with an NIH-funded project investigating potential links between evolutionary adaptations in human nasal morphology and cold/exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (i.e., asthma). This is a one-year position with the possibility of renewal for a second-year given satisfactory progress. The position is 80% research with 20% effort allocated to teaching human gross anatomy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Employ software for visualizing/analyzing 3D data from CT scans (e.g., AMIRA/AVIZO, Geomagic, Dragonfly, ImageJ or Matlab); prepare 3D digital models of nasal passages for use in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyses; assist in the design of laboratory experiments and protocols; process, organize, and summarize data into reports and make recommendations to the PI at regular research lab meetings; contribute to the preparation and submission of abstracts, professional presentations, manuscripts, grant proposals and reports; contribute to the instruction of cadaver-based gross anatomy courses for medical and graduate students.

Minimum Qualifications: PhD in anatomy, anthropology, paleontology, biological sciences, or related field. Highly qualified applicants with a Master’s degree may be considered for a research assistant position.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous research experience working with 3D imaging data (e.g., CT, MRI, laser scans) and/or 3D geometric morphometric analyses. Previous coursework/teaching experience in dissection-based gross anatomy.

Applicants should email a cover letter, CV, and the names and contact information of three references to Dr. Scott Maddux at [email protected].
