The Congdon School of Health Sciences at High Point University (High Point, NC) is seeking six (6) Graduate Teaching Fellows to assist in human gross anatomy instruction for the Summer of 2021. Due to the prior cancelation of the 2020 HPU Anatomy Fellows Program after offers had already been made last year, those initially offered last year will be given priority, however, they are still expected to apply.

Responsibilities:

Three (3) of the graduate teaching fellows will be responsible for assisting with the instruction of Physician Assistant and Athletic Training graduate students in human cadaveric dissections, preparation and dissection of human cadaveric specimens, as well as composing and grading written and practical exams under the direction of the Course Director Dr. James D. Pampush. The PA/AT Gross Anatomy course runs 10 weeks from the 1st week of June (beginning Memorial Day, May 31st) to the 2nd week of August (ending August 12th). Teaching fellows will arrive in High Point for orientation one week before the course starts, at the end of May, and return to their home institution after the conclusion of the second week of August.

Three (3) of the graduate teaching fellows will be responsible for assisting with the instruction of Physical Therapy graduate students under the direction of the Course Director, Dr. Susan Lad. The PT gross anatomy course also involves full cadaveric dissection, and the fellows’ responsibilities in the PT course will be very similar to that for the PA/AT course, however, the duration of the PT course is longer with a timeline from May 31st through August 27th.

Qualifications: Candidates for this position should be ABD PhD students in Anatomy, Anthropology, Biology, or a related program whose research focuses on some aspect of human and/or primate evolutionary anatomy/morphology. Candidates must have previously completed and scored an A or equivalent in a cadaveric gross anatomy course and be available for the entire duration of the contract. Given that there are two distinct time periods, applications should indicate whether they are available for the PT and/or PA/AT semesters. It is recommended that each fellow has consistent access to a vehicle. Compensation: The successful candidates will be competitively paid, and local furnished housing (complete with kitchenware) will be provided by High Point University for the duration of the contract.

Application: Interested candidates should email the following to James D. Pampush ([email protected]) and Susan Lad ([email protected]): 1. A short cover letter (no more than 1 page) detailing their interest and relevant qualifications for the position. 2. A Curriculum Vitae which demonstrates their anatomically based research interests. 3. An unofficial transcript indicating completion of a cadaveric gross anatomy course and a grade of A or equivalent. 4. The names of three references.

We will begin reviewing applications immediately and will do so until all positions are filled, with full consideration by March 10. All eligible candidates are encouraged to apply by please note that preference will be given to candidates who received offers for the 2020 program, which was cancelled due to COVID-19.

High Point University is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, age, protected veteran or disabled status, or genetic information.
