Job Title: Assistant Professor in Genetics/Genomics

Background: The Department of Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola University Chicago (LUC) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor for academic year 2021-22. The new faculty member is expected to participate in teaching Genetics and/or Genomics to a wide variety of science students in addition to Biology majors.

As part of a University-wide, multiyear hiring initiative designed to diversify the faculty, the department seeks applicants with expertise in Genetics/Genomics. As an urban-based Department of Biology dedicated to mentoring a diverse student body, many of whom come from under-represented and under-served populations, we especially encourage applications from candidates from under-represented groups. We also encourage applications from scholars committed to interdisciplinarity (i.e., working with colleagues across different subfields and disciplines) and the successful pursuit of external grants. The successful candidate will be joining a department with more than 45 full-time faculty members, over 2,000 majors and minors, and MS graduate programs. Duties and Responsibilities: Faculty are expected to run a productive research laboratory, involve undergraduate and graduate students in their research, and be competitive for external funding. She or he will also teach two courses per semester, including general genetics, genomics, and more advanced courses in their specialty area. Researchers in all areas of genetics are welcome to apply, but preference will be given to those utilizing molecular approaches in addressing genetic and/or genomic questions.

Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate for this position will have a PhD in Genetics or a related field, postdoctoral research experience, proven excellence in research, and experience teaching at the college level. The candidate should be willing to support the social justice mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic Education.
