Essential Job Duties: This position provides laboratory and teaching assistance for a variety of courses taught to Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) students at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. The majority of instruction time is with anatomy courses. For anatomy courses, the position assists in the anatomy teaching laboratory, including: general lab maintenance, specimen collection, preparation and repair of models, preparation of cadavers for dissection, laboratory instruction of DVM students in gross anatomical courses (including preparation of, and grading, practical examinations), and possibly the handling of live animals for use in palpation classes. Participation in other courses is expected and this includes instructional support of histology and physiology in an integrated curriculum. Responsibilities in these courses will vary and may include laboratory set up (supplies/specimens), microscope set up, administering and grading exams, and assisting with instruction.

Minimum Experience/Education: Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications: -Knowledge of animal biology and basic anatomy. -Familiarity with biological chemical fixatives. -Will have understanding of all regulatory standards that apply to a laboratory in which live animals and formalin fixed specimens are used. -Google suite products, MS Word and MS Excel for communication and data collection.

Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with cadaver fixation methods. Knowledge to safely use, measure, and prepare chemical fixatives. Instructional experience. Competent with use of audiovisual technologies.
