Description A post-doctoral associate (PDA) based at New York University (NYU) is required to work with PI James Higham on topics related to longitudinal aging in the long-running (>80 years) study of rhesus macaque biology on Cayo Santiago, Puerto Rico. The position is funded by the National Institute on Aging, and in collaboration with Drs Noah Snyder-Mackler (Arizona State University) and Lauren Brent (University of Exeter, UK). The study seeks to determine how variation in the social environment (e.g. social status, degree of social support, central vs peripheral) influences the pace at which different individuals age across different domains (physiological, physical, molecular, aging). The PDA will coordinate the collection and measurement of samples for the physiological aging domain, which include urine and fecal measurements of endocrine, immune and inflammatory biomarkers, in addition to the measurement of blood cytokine and chemokine concentrations. The PDA will integrate these data with data being collected on other aging domains, and undertake analyses of how they are influenced by variation in social behavior.

The position is available from October 1st 2020 for one year, renewable up to three years. Starting salary will be $58,500, plus benefits.

Qualifications A PhD in zoology, animal biology, biological anthropology, or a related field. Evidence of active outputs, such as peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, with some success in grant applications also preferred. The PDA may be required to do some fieldwork to collect samples in Puerto Rico, so some experience of travel and experience of undertaken data collection in the tropics is preferred. Previous experience of labwork such as enzyme or radioimmunoassays strongly preferred. Previous experience working directly with nonhuman primates is an advantage but not essential.

Application Instructions Applicants should submit a cover letter outlining their training, background, and suitability for the position, along with a CV and the names and addresses of 3 referees, via Interfolio.
