The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at James Madison University invites applications for a one year visiting position in biological anthropology at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2020. The position has the potential to be renewed for a second year. Preference will be given to candidates with a research focus in human biology, human health and disease, and/or race and human variation.

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology consists of 22 full-time faculty, 13 in Sociology and 9 in Anthropology. The Anthropology program is committed to four-field undergraduate teaching. The faculty are active in professional fields at the national and international level and are dedicated to excellence in undergraduate education.

Teaching duties include a large introductory course in biological anthropology and one upper level course in the candidate’s area of specialization per semester.

A Ph.D. by time of appointment is preferred.  We are especially interested in candidates who have a demonstrated commitment towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment. Candidates must demonstrate their potential to teach in both small and large classroom settings.
