The Department of Anthropology at the State University of New York at Potsdam, a 200+ year-old teaching-centered college located in the heart of Northern New York, invites applications for a 2-year, full-time Visiting Assistant Professor position in anthropology, beginning fall 2020.
The faculty member in this position will teach introductory and upper-division courses in the areas of biological (forensic/biomedical) and applied anthropology, such as: Forensic Anthropology; Medical Anthropology; Humans, Disease, and Death; Applying Anthropology; Applied Anthropology Research Methods; and/or other courses in their area of expertise. They also will help implement our new online applied anthropology certificate program
Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and research, interdisciplinary learning, and the application of new technologies in teaching and scholarship. In addition, we seek teachers and scholars who share a commitment to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. As such, candidates should have experience preparing students for life in a diverse and rapidly changing society, possess communication and interpersonal skills needed to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues, and experience creating, fostering, and sustaining inclusive environments in and out of the classroom.
Likewise, we are, especially, seeking candidates who have worked collaboratively with indigenous stakeholders and members of other under-represented groups in their research, and who in their teaching have worked across various departments in order to foster the success of students from underrepresented groups. Experience teaching in online environments is also a plus.
A Ph.D. in anthropology is preferred, though candidates who are ABD in anthropology at the time of application also will be considered. While applications will be accepted until the position is filled, full consideration will be granted to those who submit application materials (cover letter, CV) by December 15, 2019. Interested candidates may apply on-line at https://employment.potsdam.edu.
