The American Association of Biological Anthropologists (AABA) is committed to respecting and protecting your privacy. We've structured our web sites so that, in general, you can visit us on the Web without identifying yourself or revealing any personal information. 

This Privacy Policy sets forth AABA's practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information. This policy applies to any information that you may provide through the AABA web sites or through the Wiley Scholar One system in the context of submitting or reviewing manuscripts for the Yearbook of Biological Anthropology. By using or submitting information to this site or to the Wiley Scholar One site in the context of the Yearbook of Biological Anthropology, you agree with the terms of AABA's Privacy Policy written below. 

Data Collection 

AABA only collects personally identifiable data such as your name, address, telephone number, or e-mail address when you voluntarily submit it to AABA either through its sites or the Wiley Scholar One site (Yearbook of Biological Anthropology). This information may be used by personnel of AABA as a means to contact you to obtain more information, to improve this site, or it might be used to provide you with information that you have requested or additional information that AABA believes may be of interest to you. The data will not be transferred to a third party outside of AABA without your prior consent but may be used within AABA or by a company acting as an agent of AABA for processing and mailing purposes. AABA will not sell, rent, or lease your personally identifiable information to others. 

As part of the order process, if we collect credit/debit card information, your information will be used to fill your order but we will never share your personal payment information with third parties.

While AABA makes every reasonable effort to protect the information collected through its Web sites, please be aware that there is always some risk involved when submitting data over the Internet. We cannot guarantee that our Web sites are 100-percent safe from illegal tampering or "hacking." Any data transmitted over the Internet may be at risk; however, once it is received at AABA and entered into its database, it has the same protection that AABA extends to its own confidential information. 

We track the total number of visitors to our Web site, the number of visitors to each page of the Web site, and the domain names of our visitors' Internet service providers. No personally identifiable information is gathered in this process. 

Updating Your Information 

If at any time you wish to stop receiving e-mails or other communications from us, or if you have submitted personally identifiable information through our Web sites and would like to have that information deleted from our records, please notify us using the contact information on our website. You may also request access to personal data about you that AABA holds and you may have the opportunity to request a correction or amendment to your personal data. 

Security

The AABA web sites as well as Scholar One have security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control. No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure, however please note the following:

1. AABA contracts with Burk, Inc., to manage membership. Burk, Inc. uses Authorize.net to process credit card payments. Transfer of credit card information from users of the AABA membership and meeting registration website to Authorize.net is protected by encryption and an SSL certificate issued to Authorize.net. Authorize.net stores this credit card information on its secure servers. The AABA and Burk, Inc. do not retain or store credit card numbers on the servers they manage.
   
2. AABA contracts with Wiley Publishers to manage submissions to and reviewing for the Yearbook of Biological Anthropology. Wiley’s security measures are outlined in their Privacy Policy, which can be found at https://www.wiley.com/en-us/privacy.
   

Refunds

Refunds are not issued for purchase of AABA memberships. Membership is canceled when the membership term expires or if an individual or institution requests that the membership be terminated.

Links to Third-Party Sites 

As a convenience to our visitors, our sites may contain links to other (non-AABA) sites that we believe may offer useful information. The Privacy Policy presented here does not apply to those sites. You should contact these sites directly for information on their privacy policies, confidentiality agreements, and data collection/distribution procedures. 

Children's Policy 

We do not collect personal information from any person we actually know is under the age of 18. 

Cookies 

Our Web site uses a technology called "non-persistent cookies," which is a small data file that a server gives to your browser when you access Members Only pages of our Web site in order to let you access the pages and keep track of your log in status while using our web site. Using non-persistent cookies to track page visits helps us analyze our site usage more accurately. In cases in which non-persistent cookies are used, we will not collect personally identifiable information except with your explicit permission. Please note that linked non-AABA sites may also use cookies. AABA cannot control the use of cookies by these non-AABA sites. We also want you to know that when you link from a AABA Web site to another Web site, that site may have the ability to recognize that you have come from a AABA site. If you do not want any other Web sites to know that you have been on this Web site, we recommend that you do not use the links provided in our site.
